GoDaddy’s quiet 9% rally is the AI rebound investors should fade

GoDaddy’s 9.45% pop looks more like momentum detached from a messy AI transition than proof of a durable turnaround. With full-year guidance narrowed and growth lagging cheaper, faster-growing GEN, the rebound is a fade until bookings stabilize.

GoDaddy has become a stock-market AI story at precisely the moment its operating story is losing clarity. The company’s July quarter met expectations, but management narrowed the full-year revenue range after citing slower AI-tool adoption and weaker customer acquisition. That combination makes the latest advance look like a technical rebound after a bruising selloff, not confirmation that monetization has turned the corner. Our take is straightforward: fade strength in GDDY until the AI transition proves it can expand the business rather than merely rearrange it.

Guidance is the cleanest reason to distrust the rally. GoDaddy reported Q2 revenue of $1.298 billion against a $1.295 billion consensus estimate, while Q3 revenue guidance of $1.32 billion to $1.34 billion was merely in line. More tellingly, the company narrowed its full-year revenue outlook to $5.215 billion to $5.255 billion from $5.195 billion to $5.275 billion. This was a meet-and-narrow print, not the kind of upside surprise that justifies a sudden repricing of the stock. The earlier roughly 17% post-earnings plunge already reflected concern about weak core monetization; a 9.45% bounce does not erase that signal.

Airo is scaling quickly, but the transition is still creating disruption before it creates dependable acceleration. Its annualized bookings run rate rose from $10 million in Q1 to $50 million in Q2, a genuine product win. Yet traditional applications and commerce bookings are moderating as GoDaddy reworks its web-building platform around AI, and management expects that transition to trim near-term total bookings by 100 basis points. The crucial distinction is that AI adoption is growing inside the portfolio while the legacy mix is being pressured. That is a transition cost, not proof that the whole company has entered a higher-growth phase.

The broader earnings profile also argues against treating GDDY as a clean AI compounder. Revenue growth is running at 8.3% year over year, but EPS is down 4.4% and net income is down 6.6%. GoDaddy remains highly profitable, with a 17.8% net margin and a 95 Profitability component inside the TickerSpark Score, but its Growth component is only 40. That gap is the bear case in one snapshot: a profitable business whose earnings direction is softening while the market tries to price a more exciting future.

Valuation is reasonable, but it is not compelling enough to absorb another reset. GDDY trades at 14.73 times trailing earnings, versus 11.19 times for GEN. GEN is also growing revenue 27.1% year over year, compared with GoDaddy’s 8.3%, and carries a 20.7% net margin versus GoDaddy’s 17.8%. For a head-to-head technology allocation, paying more for the slower grower makes little sense while GoDaddy’s AI transition is narrowing guidance. The TickerSpark Score’s 80 Valuation component confirms that GDDY is not expensive in isolation; it does not make the stock a bargain relative to a stronger-growth alternative.

The bullish reading has real ammunition because the latest quarter was not a fundamental collapse. Q2 EPS came in at $1.83 versus $1.41 a year earlier and ahead of the $1.72 consensus estimate, while revenue increased 6.6% year over year. Airo’s jump to a $50 million annualized bookings run rate gives management a credible product to point to, and the rapid ramp could eventually offset weakness in traditional applications and commerce. The AI strategy is early and unsettled, not demonstrably broken.

Market signals also remain inconvenient for a bear. The stock is above its 200-day moving average of $98.67, its 14-day RSI is 61.73, and the MACD remains positive. Analyst consensus is still Buy, with 21 Buy ratings, 15 Holds, one Strong Buy, and only one Sell. Those facts explain why a short position can be squeezed even when the operating thesis is deteriorating. They do not, however, change the fact that at least four analysts cut price targets after the print and one firm downgraded the shares to Market Perform. The market’s reaction says the bar for Airo has moved higher, while the guide says the business has not cleared it.

That leaves us fading the move, not declaring GoDaddy’s AI effort worthless. A TickerSpark Score of 71, supported by 95 Profitability and 80 Valuation components, makes GDDY a solid company; the problem is that the stock’s next leg depends on a growth transition that is currently diluting bookings and narrowing expectations. We would not chase the rebound near current levels, and any bearish exposure belongs in a position size that respects the stock’s still-constructive momentum.

The next Q3 earnings report is the decisive test. We would change the view only if GoDaddy shows that Airo adoption is translating into stronger total bookings, reversing moderation in traditional applications and commerce, and restoring confidence beyond the narrowed $5.215 billion to $5.255 billion guide. Until then, the $98.67 200-day moving average is the first technical level to respect: holding above it keeps squeeze risk alive, but losing it after this rebound would reinforce the fundamental fade. The AI rebound needs operating proof, not another unexplained rally.

GoDaddy's 17% plunge is a bookings verdict, not an AI verdict

GoDaddy's 16.7% plunge shows the market is pricing weak core monetization ahead of its AI ambitions. A 3% bookings increase, including a 1% decline in Core Platform bookings, is the number the narrative cannot explain away.

Tempus AI's 24% stealth rally is a bull signal, not a mystery

TEM’s 24.1% headline-free surge looks like investors repricing a real profitability inflection, not chasing an empty AI story. Q2 revenue growth, a guidance raise and a path to positive cash flow give the rally a fundamental anchor despite expensive valuation.
